Why The 100 Day Project
I am a creative person but sometimes I don’t know quite how to express this. When I saw my friend Amanda Billing share the 100 Day Project and ask for people to join her, I thought why not! You can learn more about it here and you can check out Amanda’s IG platform for her 2026 project.
Then I was faced with what should I do. Amanda was quite clear that this may 100 day idea may seem easy from the outset but it can be challenging to complete and not to underestimate this when choosing your project. I didn’t want to put too much pressure on myself so wanted to keep it simple as I’m really trying to identify my creative side at the moment. Therefore I took to my recent constant companion, Google Gemini (GG).
People have a funny relationship with AI. Some don’t like it as they are worried it’s going to take their jobs, while others embrace it for all it’s opportunity. I started using it to take care of the small stuff such as writing updates or keeping track of responses when I was dealing with something at the office. Now that I’m self-employed, I use it as a colleague and ask for advice and feedback. It fails a lot. Things go missing or it loses track of what you’re talking about but it’s still better than me talking to myself. So therefore, I’ve used it a lot for the job application process (administration and individual tailoring) and helping me refine my messages. I view GG as helpful and maybe something big and bad will happen but I tend to be an optimist.
Anyway, my friend GG and I went through the options of something that would be fun and not too challenging and I settled on photography (using my iPhone 15). I’ve always loved photos and have taken classes many moons ago particularly related to using an SLR camera (back in the film days) and generally related to travel. As phones have got better, I’ve stopped carrying an SLR but there’s still nothing better than putting a camera up to your eye and clicking. I have a digital one in the cupboard so I may pull it out again this year but I’m happy with my phone for this project.
To keep things interesting, I have not selected a particular theme (Amanda’s first project involved photographing heart-shaped objects), rather I asked GG to create me a plan for my project and I’ve selected taking photos using 10 themes for 10 days. I used Canva to create myself an image representing these themes and I have purposefully not thought too much more about it.
